The Story of Babar

Calling All Fourth Grade Artists!

The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild invite
fourth-grade students participating in this year’s Young People’s Concert to showcase their creativity in our annual Cover Art Contest.

Inspired by The Story of Babar, students are encouraged to create an original black-and-white illustration capturing the magic, imagination, and adventure of Babar’s unforgettable journey. The winning artwork will become the cover of the official Young People’s Concert Student Activity Booklet, distributed to thousands of fourth-grade students attending the performances.

1st Place

  • Featured on the cover of the 2027 Young People's Concert Activity Booklet
  • Recognition at the Young People's Concert

2nd-5th Place

  • Artwork featured inside the Student Activity Booklet

Honorable Mentions

  • Selected entries will also be recognized inside the booklet.

Contest Theme

The Story of Babar

Students may illustrate scenes or characters inspired by Babar’s adventure, the orchestra, music, imagination, or the joy of discovery. We encourage originality and creativity while reflecting the spirit of this year’s concert.

Contest Rules

  • Open to fourth-grade students attending the 2027 Young People's Concert.
  • Artwork must be original and created entirely by the student.
  • Use 8½" × 11" white paper.
  • Artwork must be created vertically (portrait orientation).
  • Artwork should be completed in black ink or black marker only (no pencil or color).
  • Please print the student's name, school, teacher, and contact information on the back of the artwork.
  • Entries that do not follow the contest rules may be disqualified.

Submission Deadline

Friday, November 6, 2026

Artwork may be delivered to the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra office, or arrangements can be made for pickup.
