Third-Grade Violin Program

Bringing the Joy of Music into the Classroom

The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra’s Third-Grade Violin Program introduces elementary students to the excitement of learning a string instrument through an engaging, hands-on classroom experience.

Designed for third grade classrooms (and occasionally second- or first-grade classes), this in-school residency gives students the opportunity to explore the violin over 10 weekly, 50-minute lessons led by professional Symphony School instructors.

Students begin by learning the fundamentals of music, rhythm, posture, and instrument care. Within just a few weeks, they’re playing real violins, discovering the satisfaction of creating music together as a class.

By the conclusion of the program, students will have learned to:

Serving North Alabama Students

The Third-Grade Violin Program currently serves students throughout North Alabama through partnerships with public, private, and homeschool communities.

Participating school systems have included:

  • Limestone County Schools
  • Athens City Schools
  • Scottsboro City Schools
  • Hartselle City Schools

Additional schools may participate based on instructor availability.
