Elgar - Cello Concerto in E minor
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 1 in G minor, "Winter Daydreams"
Tonight’s dramatic program belongs to the romantics, no doubt about it. Edward Elgar’s sweeping Cello Concerto, perhaps the English composer’s most beloved major work, is performed by soloist Susan Babini. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, “Winter Daydreams”, is less often heard than his later masterpieces but was a personal favorite of its notoriously self-critical author and was hugely successful with audiences of the day. Settle in to enjoy this panorama of moorland vistas and snow-covered steppes, all from the comfort of your seat in the concert hall.
